Preparation is key.Put spare clothes in a clear plastic zip file in the nappy bag so if anything leaks these stay dry. It’s worth carrying an extra change of clothes for yourself in hand luggage.A spare carrier bag can be handy for any purpose- used bottles, a smelly muslin or soiled clothing. An anti-bacterial hand gel in the front pocket means a nappy can be changed anywhere & the gel can be easily removed for airport security.Keep boarding passes & passports in the same place each time they’ve been checked.Wear uncomplicated clothing so you minimise what you must remove during security.Having small children takes longer, so leave plenty of time. You may need to fold the buggy quickly so keep items out of the bottom carrier.Babies & children can struggle if they pick up on parent’s nervousness & stress, so stay calm if problems arise, you can work through this!Have a Happy Holiday!#holidaywithchildren#holidaywithbaby#flyingwithbabies#happyfamilyholiday … See MoreSee Less
A new baby in the family an exciting time. However, young children often need extra support and understanding. Before New Baby Arrives…9 months can feel a very long time to a small child. Don’t spend all your time talking about the new baby to prepare them. They may become despondent with regards to the baby, instead of sharing the excitement.Closer to baby’s arrival can be an exciting time to get your child involved with getting the nursery ready or buying some of the extra things that are needed.Talk through their worries and reassure them.Read topical story books.Tell them who will look after them whilst you are having the baby.Baby’s Here!!Try to be available to cuddle and engage with your older child when they first meet their new sibling.Children are naturally curious. Teach them, don’t expect them to know. Stroking baby’s feet or tummy with gentle hands allows contact without poking fingers in eyes or ears!Children love to help. Get them involved in changing nappies, getting things for you, giving baby a blanket, or a toy.Include some quality 1-2-1 time with them each week.Routines will need adapting. Routines that work for your child, as well baby, will go a long way in making them feel happy and secure.Be realistic about what your child can cope with as life changes around them. However, hold on to the boundaries. Allowing a toddler to take control as you feel guilty about the change will lead to more upset. … See MoreSee Less
Aim to start and end the day at the same time each morning and eveningDon’t take your baby out of the room they are sleeping in during night hoursNight feeds should be done with minimum fuss, light and conversationAt night have everything you may need to hand i.e. change of clothes, change of bedding, nappy’s etc.Create little patterns during the day, in time these will become familiar to your baby and will help you on trickier days to manage.Have awake time before the last daytime feed. How long this is will depend on the age and stage the baby is at.During the day ensure that there are times when your baby is not being cuddled or picked up. If always carried about it will become increasingly harder for them to settle independently. … See MoreSee Less
Know the sleep guidance for a baby of their age.Spread this out during the day, allowing awake time first thing in the morning and before bed.Aim for a 12hr day/12hr night. In the early days, sleep yourself when your baby sleeps to allow yourself rest and recovery.Create a calm and dark sleeping environment at night.Make sure your baby is awake before lifting for a feed. Babies often make noises in the sleep, so don’t react and lift to feed too quickly.During the day try to create regular, simple habits so your baby’s day can become predictable to them over time.Put your baby down awake regularly to see if they can settle themselves to sleep without needing your help.Allow time for your baby to become familiar and comfortable in their sleeping environment. Have a designated space which becomes your baby’s feeding area. When they are trying foods for the first time, they may spit it back out, they have been used to a sucking action previously, taking food from a spoon is very different. When weaning it is best to introduce savoury foods first, they can easily show preference to sweeter fruit, introduce one food at a time to begin with so if there is a sensitivity to anything you know what it is. Start with vegetables such as carrot, broccoli, potatoes, cauliflower etc. Readymade baby food usually contains a fruit or something sweet so I would minimise the use of pre bought packets.I always steam vegetables. To begin with a baby is still getting the nutrition they needs from the milk but it is a good habit to get into to maximise on the vitamin content of the food. Blend it using a food mixer or hand blender. Most fruit and vegetables can be frozen. Freeze in ice cube trays then transfer to sandwich bags once frozen, label what they are and when they are made/best before date. Start with one food at a time then start combining flavours. Buy a few small tubs and label as you go can be more convenient if out and about, You can just grab a tub out of the freezer and take it with you.Embrace the mess and enjoy their little facial expressions, as they are trying new tastes. … See MoreSee Less

Today is World Book Day 📚📖I was never a reader as a child, but I love reading to my own children. ✔️It gives us 1-2-1 time that is calmer in an otherwise somewhat chaotic world.✔️As they get older it stimulates conversation, develops imagination and helps them to form opinions and investigate new ideas. ✔️It can help with working through problems, stimulate laughter and create small pockets in time that are so easily lost. So, when you are sat reading the same book again and again and again to your toddler (we’ve all been there!), you are not just reading for today but stimulating the interest in books to help you with tomorrow. … See MoreSee Less
